CITY TOUR (1/2 DAY)
Kazan, the capital of Tatarstan, is located in west-central Russia on Volga River. It was once the capital of the powerful Tatar Khanate before being annexed to the Russian Empire after its defeat to Ivan the Terrible in 1552. Almost 500 years later, the city remains a mixture of both Tatar and Russian heritage. It is a bilingual city with signs in both Russian and Tatar languages. Kazan is home to numerous cultural and historical sites including the Kazan Kremlin, which was declared a World Heritage Site in 2000. This complex represents exceptional Tatar testimony of historical continuity and cultural diversity.
COMPLEX VISIT OF KREMLIN, QOL SHARIF MOSQUE AND MUSEUM OF ISLAMIC CULTURE
On this excursion you will visit the Kremlin, the jewel of Kazan, which is part of the main Christian center of the cities of the Volga. Built by Ivan the Terrible in 1552, on a site dating from the Muslim period of the Golden Horde and the Khanate of Khazan. The Kremlin complex in Kazan represents an exceptional Tatar testimony to historical continuity and cultural diversity, resulting in a significant exchange of values due to the cultural differences of the 16th and 19th centuries. You will also visit the Qol Sharif mosque founded that same year and the main mosque in Tatarstan, one of the largest Muslim temples in Europe, located in the Kazan Kremlin territory. The construction of the mosque, or rather its reconstruction, lasted for almost ten years: from 1996 to 2005. The most beautiful architectural complex was erected in place of the legendary Kazan Khanate mosque, which was destroyed during the Kazan assault by the troops of Ivan the Terrible in 1552. The composition of the mosque is symmetrical. There are two pavilions, linking it to the nearby building of the old cadet school on the sides of the mosque. The capacity of this building is 1500 people. The area in front of the mosque can house up to 10,000 people. Here you can visit the Museum of Islamic culture, which will undoubtedly round off your impression of this place.
